Learn how to apply boning and corsetry techniques, adapt 18th century style lines to an individual and personal fit. Learners must have sewing experience. Starter pack will be provided, however additional materials will need to be purchased throughout the course.

287127 - Introduction to Dressmaking with Corrie Robinson
4 Week Course (4 x 4 hours) Thursday's, 4pm - 8pm

This four week course has specifically been designed with the beginner in mind; learning new skills whilst creating a fashionable 'A' line skirt. You will be given your pattern and fabric and will be taught every aspect of dressmaking whilst cutting and stitching your own piece. You will be shown how to take body measurements, select the correct style for body shape; how to read a pattern and how to choose the right fabric.

Then you will be taught, step by step, how to cut the pattern, pin and cut the fabric, stitch together your cut pieces, place a zip and finish with a hem, At the end of the four week course you will have a completed 'A' line skirt and the knowledge and confidence to take your dressmaking forward and begin creating your own clothes. Starter pack will be provided, however additional materials will need to be purchased throughout the course

An introduction to wools and yarns, understanding yarn bands; tension squares and why? You will look at different pattern styles and abbreviations, as well as needle sizes. You will also:

. learn how to cast on and cast off
. learn knit stitch, purl stitch, garter stitch, cable
. make a tension square
. learn 4 row hole pattern
. make a knitting bag, a small baby cardigan, 1 hour scarf

For the more advanced person who can knit and already knows the basics but wants to pick up tips and new ideas you will:

. learn a better understanding of patterns
. learn new techniques
. work with fashion yarns

The course will cover the simple start-up stitches and basic principles of crochet using traditional and modern yarns. You will also learn how to read a pattern. So if you have always wanted to learn to crochet then this is your chance!

287125 - Loose Covers with Isobel Burnage
2 Day Course (2 x 6hrs) Tuesday's 10am - 4pm
This is an intensive advanced two day course where students will cut and make a slip cover for an upholstered stool. Bring a stool or pouffe of your own choice but please no chairs! The making and use of piping will be learnt and students will have the experience of making a boxed cushion cover. The cutting of patterns for upholstered furniture and calculating the amount of fabric needed will also be taught. All materials necessary will be supplied along with useful notes for you to take home.
Course Cost: £60 - £30 deposit required, balance to be paid on first week
